Special events have been vital to Houston Area Parkinson Society fundraising since it was founded as an all volunteer organization in 1974 and began raising funds for its programs.
Exciting events and galas have been a long-standing tradition for HAPS, beginning with the Knock-Out Parkinson's event with special guest Muhammad Ali in 1997. From that point, the gala transitioned into Polo for Parkinson's, Changing the Face of Parkinson's and now to the HAPS Annual Awards Gala.
Friends and family gather each year with great enthusiasm and a shared mission at HAPS Annual Awards Gala as the Roy H. Cullen Quality of Life Award, Lillie Cullen Quality of Life Award or President George H.W. Bush Award are presented to distinguished recipients. These awards were established to recognize people and entities that contribute to improving the quality of life for those affected by Parkinson's disease—and to honor those who live, or help others live, with the challenges of being diagnosed with Parkinson's.
Another HAPS annual fundraiser takes place as an official Run for a Reason charity in the Chevron Houston Marathon. For the past 25 years, dedicated runners, walkers, fundraisers, donors and supporters work hard to raise awareness and valuable funds for HAPS through the Marathon.
