The 2018 Blues, Brews & Barbecue benefiting Houston Area Parkinson Society was held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Wicklow Heights. Over 200 supporters helped raise $31,000 for programs that are critical to serving the Houston Parkinson's community.

For more than 40 years, HAPS has offered free therapeutic exercise and support groups, social services, education, transportation, emergency financial aid and subsidized respite care to families affected by Parkinson’s disease in eight Houston-area counties. Proceeds from Blues, Brews & Barbecue will help fund these critical services.

Outstanding Cook-Off Chair Brandi Key and Event Chair Kelly Laudadio planned a lively afternoon event with the perfect mix of blues music, featuring the music of High Tech Rednecks, Road Gang, The Steve Krase Band, The Rick Lee Band, Bluestown Shakedown and a barbecue cook-off, coupled with a focus on the incurable neurodegenerative disease – Parkinson’s – and how we as a community can better serve those suffering from this debilitating illness.

Five barbecue cook-off teams competed for the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards for the best bite. Ruben Ortega of H-Town Restaurant Group, Terrence Gallivan of Pass & Provisions, Dan Berg of Carmelo’s and Brandi Key of Lasco Enterprises were the judges at the event. Attendees were invited to vote via an online app. Funcle Dan’s BBQ won the Judges’ Choice Award. The Liquid Yacht won the People’s Choice Award

The ladies of Urban Swank – Shanna Jones and Felice Sloan served as the dynamic emcees. The Auction featured Astros tickets, fabulous trips, an Uchi giftcard and cookbook signed by Tyson Cole.

The Money Muscle sponsor of this event was the Houston Area Parkinson Society Board of Directors. The Crutch sponsors of the event were Goodnight Charlie’s and Foster Fence Ltd.

Thank you to all of you who supported and attended the event! We hope to see you again next year. Click the photo link below to view pictures from this fun event!
