This year, Houston Area Parkinson Society celebrated its 25th Year as a Run for a Reason (RFAR) charity partner with the Chevron Houston Marathon. To commemorate this occasion, HAPS was invited to speak at the EXPO and joined the half and full marathon runners as the honorary starters of the race! Additionally, HAPS was featured in the 2019 RUN HOU Race Program. This long-standing partnership has had an incredible impact on HAPS from not just a visibility standpoint, but also has created immense financial and community-building opportunities. Over the course of 25 years, the RFAR program has allowed HAPS to raise over 1 Million Dollars!
During the 2019 Chevron Houston Marathon weekend, Team HAPS braved the brisk winter weekend as walkers, runners and those cheering grabbed their sneakers, tights and caps. An amazing group of nearly 200 HAPS team members assembled and participated in the Saturday morning 5K and over 40 runners hit the Sunday Half and Full Marathon course. On Saturday after the 5K, a group gathered at El Tiempo on Navigation to celebrate finishing the race, warm up, and enjoy yummy food! On Sunday, HAPS had a tent with drinks, snacks and smiles ready to congratulate half and full marathoners on their accomplishments. HAPS thanks all who helped make this year's marathon one to remember.
“This has been, and continues to be, not only an incredible fundraising event, but an invaluable opportunity to raise awareness. The community aspect of this event allows us to bring our clients, their families, and the medical community together for a fun event that is not only meaningful, but also motivating.”
- Kathleen Crist, HAPS Executive Director
