The 2019 Blues, Brews & Barbecue benefiting Houston Area Parkinson Society was held on Sunday, April 14th at Wicklow Heights. More than 200 supporters helped raise $35,000 for programs that are critical to serving the Houston Parkinson's community.
By using a whole-human approach to community building, HAPS reduces the fear and isolation associated with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. For 45 years, we have offered free therapeutic exercise and support groups, social services, education, and transportation to families affected by Parkinson’s disease in eight Houston-area counties. Proceeds from Blues, Brews & Barbecue will help fund these services.
Outstanding Event Chairs Kelly and Matthew Simon planned a lively afternoon event with the perfect mix of blues music, featuring High Tech Rednecks, Road Gang, The Steve Krase Band, Rick Lee and the Night Owls, Bluestown Shakedown and a barbecue cook-off.
Nine barbecue cook-off teams competed for the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards. Armando Palacios of Armandos, and Brandi Key and Jorge Valencia of LMN Hospitality were the judges at the event. Attendees were invited to vote for their favorites as well.
