The 2019 HAPS Gala Shaken Not Stirred Gala was held on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at The Astorian. Over 420 supporters helped raise nearly $400,000 for programs that are critical to serving the Houston Parkinson’s community.
The program celebrated 45 years of HAPS being the only organization in the Houston area to provide comprehensive services that support the community. HAPS empowers families living with Parkinson’s by giving them the information, tools, and programs that assist with long-term management of this disease. A new video was showcased at the event that follows a day in the life of a HAPS client living with Parkinson’s.Outstanding Event Chairs Lisa O’Leary, Kristen Perry, and Meg Rice planned a delightful evening filled with great music and dinner. They created a perfect blend of fun and purpose — expanding understanding of Parkinson’s and how we as a community can come together to serve those living with the disease.
Funds raised at the event supports the HAPS mission to use a whole-human approach to community building that reduces the fear and isolation that can accompany this disease. Parkinson's is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects the cells of the brain which control movement. Since its beginning, HAPS has offered free therapeutic exercise and support groups, social services, education, transportation, and emergency financial aid to families affected by Parkinson’s in eight Houston-area counties. Proceeds from the Gala help fund these critical services.
