Special events have been vital to Houston Area Parkinson Society fundraising since it was founded as an all-volunteer organization in 1974 and began raising funds for its programs. HAPS has 3 major events in most years — the Gala, the Chevron Houston Marathon, and Blues, Brews & Barbecue.
Friends and family gather each year with great enthusiasm and a shared mission at the HAPS Gala. This event helps raise funds essential to providing services — free of charge— to the HAPS community.
Oftentimes, HAPS identifies individuals who have made a significant impact on the Parkinson’s community. Those individuals may be recognized at the Gala as recipients of the Roy H. Cullen Quality of Life Award, Lillie Cullen Quality of Life Award or President George H.W. Bush Award. These awards were established to recognize people and entities that contribute to improving the quality of life for those affected by Parkinson's disease — and to honor those who live, or help others live, with the challenges of being diagnosed with Parkinson's.
The theme of the event varies from year to year - from Knock Out Parkinson’s, to Changing the Face of Parkinson’s, to Shaken not Stirred. The event is always sure to be an enjoyable night out, with a focus on supporting our HAPS family.

Another HAPS annual fundraiser takes place as an official Run for a Reason charity in the Chevron Houston Marathon. Since 1994, dedicated runners, walkers, fundraisers, donors and supporters work hard to raise awareness and valuable funds for HAPS through the Marathon.

The third HAPS annual event is Blues, Brews and Barbecue. This event brings together fabulous food, great music and lots of friends to raise money through a fun event held during the spring.
